Family & children’s photography

Portraits of the people you love most.

Relaxed children’s portraits and family photography in East Devon, made for real expressions, muddy knees, growing-up years and photographs worth keeping.

Childhood and family life rarely sit still for the camera. The best portraits usually come from the small in-between moments: a look, a laugh, a hand held tight, or a child briefly forgetting they are being photographed.

Choose the kind of session that suits your family.

Some families want a simple portrait of the children. Others want a relaxed walk, beach session or family afternoon photographed naturally. This single page brings both together, without sending people through several different pages.

Children’s portraits

The art of growing up, without making it feel staged.

Children change quickly. The curls, the teeth, the serious looks, the silly expressions and the little details that disappear almost without warning.

These portraits are designed to feel simple and honest. There is no need for matching outfits, elaborate styling or children who perform on command. We keep things relaxed and work with their character, whether they are confident, shy, thoughtful or full of energy.

Family portraits

Real family photographs, somewhere you already feel yourselves.

Family sessions work best when they are built around real life. A beach walk, a favourite field, the woods, the garden, or somewhere the children can move rather than sit stiffly in front of a camera.

I will give gentle direction so you are not left wondering what to do, but the aim is not forced smiles. It is to create photographs that feel like your family at this particular point in time.

The whole process is kept calm and simple. Your dog does not need to perform, pose perfectly or be off the lead. We plan around their temperament and work at their pace.

How it works

Tell me about your dog

Send a short enquiry with your dog’s name, age, temperament and whether you prefer studio or outdoor portraits.

02

Plan the session

We choose the right setting, talk through anything I should know, and agree the kind of images you would love to create.

03

Enjoy the shoot

The session is relaxed and unhurried. We allow time for your dog to settle and never force poses that are not working.

Made to feel like your family.

Use the gallery as proof of tone rather than a separate page. It shows the mix clearly: portraits, movement, family groups, children, dogs, beach, woodland, black and white, and the occasional bit of colour where it helps.

Made to be printed

Not just files on a hard drive.

The strongest reason to book a portrait session is to make something you will actually live with. Your finished photographs can be supplied as digital images, professional prints or framed portraits.

Each chosen image is individually edited and prepared with care. If you choose something framed, I can help you select a size and finish that suits both the photograph and your home.

A few common questions

Short, practical answers that remove the usual worries before someone gets in touch.

What if my child will not sit still?

They do not need to. Some of the best portraits happen when children are allowed to move, explore and settle in their own time.

Do we need to know how to pose?

No. I will guide you gently so you know where to stand or sit, but the aim is relaxed connection rather than formal posing.

Can grandparents or dogs be included?

Yes. Family sessions can include grandparents, dogs and the relationships that matter most to you.

What should we wear?

Simple, comfortable clothing usually works best. I can send guidance before the session, but there is no need to dress everyone identically.

What happens if the weather is poor?

For outdoor sessions, we keep an eye on the forecast. If the weather is genuinely unsuitable, we rearrange.

Do you offer prints and frames?

Yes. Portraits can be supplied as digital images, professional prints or framed pieces.
